Helping Young People Achieve Their Dreams Through Equitable Access to Education & Health
Scholarship Programs in Hancock County, Maine
The Silvernail Foundation believes in helping young people achieve their dreams through equitable access to education and health. The Silvernail Scholarship will be awarded to up to 10 high school students in Hancock County each year. Each graduating senior will get a post-secondary education award worth $15,000 for their studies. Additionally, each organization will be invited to a yearly symposium on values-based leadership and how to create prosperous, dependable communities.
Fostering Leadership Skills
Our program fosters leadership skills and prepares students for post-secondary education, thereby removing education barriers for Hancock County students. In 2020, the proportion of students who completed federal financial aid forms fell by nearly 20%. There is still work to be done, even if groups and charities continue to do their share to ensure Maine kids have post-secondary credentials.
How Do We Help
Former Bucksport High School graduates Shelby and Andy Silvernail, along with their grown children Koster, Spencer, and Alyssa, have established the Silvernail Scholars program with an initial commitment of $2 million from our foundation. The BHS class of 1991 graduate Shelby Silvernail said, "Education changes lives."
Here at The Silvernail Foundation, we aim to make education accessible to students from all backgrounds.
